Students and teachers from Bishop Okoth Girls Mbaga Secondary School today paid a visit to the County Assembly of Siaya where they familiarized themselves with the mandates and operations of the legislative body.

The 160 Form Four History and Government students who were on a study tour, were taken through the structure of the devolved system of governance, the roles of the County Assembly, the relationship between the national government and the county governments, among others topical areas.

The visit comes at a time when the students are preparing for the forthcoming Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination. Such educational outings expose the students and enhances the understanding and knowledge of how laws are made and how debates in the House are conducted. The lessons learnt by these students are critical in expanding their perspectives and performance.

The County Assembly of Siaya is open to all. Schools that wish to visit the Assembly for learning purposes are welcome. The request may be placed through their respective Member of County Assembly, or by contacting the office of the County Assembly Clerk. The request should indicate the name of the institution, the preferred date of visit, as well as the number of students/pupils and the accompanying staff. Alternatively, walk-in visitors can approach security officers at the gates for guidance.
