TRADE CECM APPEARS BEFORE SPECIAL COMMITTEE, DENIES IMPEACHMENT CHARGES AGAINST HER

The hearing proceedings for the proposed impeachment of Ms Grace Agola, the County Executive Committee Member for Trade, Enterprise, Cooperatives, and Industrialization are currently underway at the County Assembly Chambers.
The CEC Member is presently appearing before the Special Committee tasked with determining the validity of the charges leveled against her
She faces a wide range of allegations, the most significant being incompetence and violation of the Constitution or any other law.
According to the charges presented to the Special Committee, chaired by East Gem MCA Hon. Seth Baraka, the CECM is accused of mismanaging issues related to casual workers and market cleaners to the effect that some market cleaners and casual workers we either not paid or underpaid for work done, leading to the misery and untold suffering of this cadre of staff who fall under the Department of Trade and Industrialization. Additionally, there have been cases of ghost casual workers, and favoritism, where some workers have been overpaid, thus leading to the loss of public funds.
The CECM is also being accused of perjury and violating Section 22(1) and (2) of the County Assemblies Powers and Privileges Act, 2017, by refusing to submit crucial reports to the House Committee on General Oversight, which has been investigating the irregular recruitment of casual workers and market cleaners.
Several casual workers and market cleaners from various wards in the county are also appearing before the Committee. They have submitted their comments on the Motion seeking to remove the CECM from office by impeachment, indicating that they have suffered due to non-payment of wages and a lack of essential working tools such as masks, gloves, and boots.
The Special Committee is expected to table its report to the County Assembly tomorrow at 2:30 P.m. on whether it finds the allegations against the County Executive Committee Member to be substantiated.
