The County Executive Committee Member for Trade, Enterprise, Cooperatives, and Industrialization, Grace Agola, has landed temporary reprieve after the County Assembly resolved to censure her instead of impeaching her.
The decision was made based on the recommendation of a Special Committee established by the Assembly to investigate the validity of the impeachment charges made against her.
According to the Committee’s findings, the charges leveled against the CEC Member, ranging from incompetence and violation of the Constitution or other laws, were all substantiated.
However, the House fully aligned with the Committee’s stance, noting that the CEC Member had acknowledged responsibility, expressed genuine remorse, issued an apology, and sought leniency. Therefore, it unanimously resolved that:
1. Within fourteen (14) days after the adoption of the Special Committee’s Report, the CEC Member for Trade, Enterprises, Cooperatives and Industrialization – Grace Agola, together with other officers responsible for the nonpayment of pending wages of market cleaners and casual workers be censured by the County Assembly, in the presence of market cleaners and casual workers, whose wages have not been paid.
2. Within 60 days, after the adoption of the Special Committee’s Report, the CEC Member for Trade, Enterprises, Cooperatives and Industrialization – Grace Agola, to ensure that casual workers and market cleaners are paid their pending wages and that she reports to the House before 30th June 2025, being the end of the Financial Year 2024/2025, failure to which the County Assembly shall resume the impeachment motion and severe sanctions shall be meted against all other responsible officers.
