HOUSE PAYS GLOWING TRIBUTE TO THE RT. HON. RAILA AMOLO ODINGA

In a united show of grief, Members of the County Assembly convened this morning for a Special Sitting to honor and pay their respects to the 2nd Prime Minister of the Republic of Kenya, Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga.
The solemn Session commenced at 10:00 am, with House Speaker George Okode emphasizing its significance. He noted that the House was ‘convening under extremely unique and difficult circumstances following the passing on of one of Kenya’s most consequential political leaders, a statesman of great courage, and a steadfast champion of democracy, justice, and unity.’
In his tribute, Speaker Okode remarked that the Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga profoundly shaped Kenya’s political landscape by dedicating his life to the service of the nation.
‘He stood firm against oppression and tirelessly fought for the rights and freedoms that many Kenyans enjoy today. His unwavering commitment to the ideals of democracy, equity, and good governance earned him admiration both at home and across the world,’ stated the Speaker.
Recalling a speech delivered by the Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, on 7th August, 2015, when he formally unveiled the County Assembly of Siaya Chambers, the Speaker reflected on his relationship with the former Premier, describing him as a consummate politician, whose unwavering commitment to the ideals of democracy, equity, and good governance earned him admiration both at home and across the world.
After his Communication, the Speaker invited the House to rise for a moment of silence in honour of the late Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga.
In his tribute, North Uyoma MCA, Hon. Booker Bonyo, eulogized the former Premier as a patriot whose leadership, wisdom, and devotion to dialogue over division left an indelible mark on the country’s national journey.
Usonga legislator, Hon. Sylvester Madialo, praised the ODM Leader for his instrumental role in the promulgation of the 2010 Constitution.
Overwhelmed by emotion, North Sakwa, MCA, Hon. Oliver Arika, described the Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga as a selfless leader whose wise counsel shaped the country’s trajectory.
North Ugenya MCA, Hon. Ben Adalla, said that the loss of Hon. Odinga was a profound personal blow, as he had guided his political journey.
‘He was my mentor and inspiration as a politician said Hon. Adalla.
South Uyoma MCA, Hon. Michael Otieno, paid a heartfelt tribute to the Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, hailing him for being a true defender of devolution.
