SELECTION PANEL NOMINEES APPEARS BEFORE HOUSE COMMITTEE FOR VETTING

The House Committee on Appointments, chaired by Speaker George Okode, conducted approval hearings today for the five individuals nominated by Governor James Orengo as members of the Selection Panel tasked with the responsibility of recruiting the County Secretary, Secretary of the County Public Service Board, and Members of the County Public Service Board
The nominees appeared before the Committee this morning, where they presented their backgrounds, defended their qualifications, and explained what they intend to do in the event their nominations to the Selection Panel are approved.
Leading the charge was CPA Risper Olick, nominated as the chairperson of the Panel. She assured the committee that if approved, she would work to ensure that the county gets qualified individuals to fill key positions within the County Public Service.
The second nominee, Mr. Ambala Fred Edward Otieno, an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, expressed his commitment to ensuring a transparent recruitment process as envisaged by the law.
Mr. Francis Ochung, nominated to represent the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK), informed the committee that his professional expertise would help enhance the effectiveness of the Selection Panel in fulfilling its responsibilities.
Mr. Alphones Castro Okumu, representing the private sector, highlighted the urgent need to restore public trust in the County Public Service. He emphasized that this would be a top priority for the Panel’s recruitment drive, should they be approved.
Ms. Gladys Olambo Okoth, who has been nominated to represent the workers’ union, underscored her commitment to foster strong collaboration among members of the Selection Panel to ensure a unified approach moving forward.
The Committee is expected to present its report on the suitability of the nominees to the House next week.
