In line with Article 196 (1)(b) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, members of the House Committee on Budget and Appropriations today engaged key stakeholders and members of the public drawn from Ugenya, Ugunja, Rarieda and Bondo Sub-Counties on the proposed Siaya County Fiscal Strategy Paper (CFSP), 2023.

Amongst other things, residents of Ugenya Sub County voiced their concern on the need to increase bursary allocation from the current Ksh. 75 million to Ksh.150 million to help carter for the increased enrolment in schools.

Rarieda Sub County residents emphasized on the need to focus on food production through enhanced allocation to fish farming, processing and marketing. They further advocated for increased allocation towards large scale fruit production.

The youth also called for improved funding to help in talent and skill promotion.

Bondo residents pleaded with the county government to look into ways of addressing the perennial water scarcity in the area and requested for the water schemes to be rehabilitated and supply capacity enhanced.

Ugunja residents pointed out the deplorable state of Ambira Sub-County hospital and called on the county government to allocate more funds in addressing healthcare concerns. They also called for allocation of funds towards the purchase fire fighting equipment and an ambulance to help address emergencies.

Tomorrow, the 22nd day of March 2023, the Committee will conduct public participation in the following areas;

1. Alego Usonga – ACK Cathedral Church from 9:00 am to 12 noon.

2. Gem – Sawagongo ACK Church from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
