Committee Member for Finance and Economic Planning, Cleophas Okoth Ombogo and his counterpart nominee for County Executive Committee Member for Education, Youth Affairs, Gender and Social Services, Rosenell Anyango Odondi, yesterday appeared before the County Assembly Select Committee on Appointments chaired by Speaker George Okode for vetting.

The two nominees appeared before the ten member committee to have their credentials checked and their suitability for the posts tested pursuant to the provisions Article 179(2) (b) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, read together with Section 35 of the County Governments Act, 2012 and Standing Order 195 (4) of the County Assembly of Siaya.

During the session, Mr. Ombogo cast a spotlight on the need for automation of the county’s revenue collection, giving a firm undertaking that of approved by the House, he will strive to

embrace the use of ICT as a strategic tool to eliminate bureaucracies and inefficiencies related to revenue collection in the county.

On her part, Ms. Rosenell Anyango Odondi outlined her vision, promising to prioritise radical reforms in the education department geared towards improvement of Early Childhood Development Education and Technical and Vocational Education and Trainings.  She further promised to streamline the county’s bursary management system in a bid to ensure students from needy grounds access the fund.

The Committee on Appointments is expected to table its report to the House next week.
