DAY TWO OF VETTING OF PERSONS NOMINATED FOR APPOINTMENT TO BONDO AND UGUNJA MUNICIPAL BOARDS

The vetting of persons nominated for appointment to Bondo and Ugunja Municipality Boards entered the second day today.

First to appear before the Lands, Physical Planning, Surveying and Housing Committee this morning was Mr. Enos Oketch Ruong’o who is a representative of the Chamber of Commerce.

The nominee, having served as a member and chair of the interim Bondo municipality board, demonstrated vast knowledge about the formation of a municipality and the development of a counry spatial plan.

If approved, he underscored his commitment to be a team player and swore to nurture the spirit of collegiality among members of the Bondo Municipality Board.

The second nominee to appear before the vetting panel was Dr. Beatrice Akoth Owino who is a marketing professional and was nominated by the professional association.

She asserted the need to employ research, proposal writing and policy development to facilitate the running of the municipalities.

She also echoed the need to handle waste management, water and sewerage systems and implementation of spatial and land use plans.

Having served as an interim board member and participated in the writing of the mission and vision of the municipality as well as in the formulation of the land use plan and boundary demarcation, Dr. Akoth displayed her confidence in holding the position.

The third nominee of the day was Ambassador Elkana Odembo. If approved, he committed to transform the face of Ugunja Municipality.

He pledged to make good use of his vast networks to train and empower the residents of Ugunja and also lobby for funding to support the development agenda of Ugunja Municipality.

On her part, Mrs. Lucy Achieng Sianga who appeared as the fourth nominee, vowed to device mechanisms of implementing the Ugunja land use plan and ensure proper zoning for busineses.

The last nominee of the day was Miss Alice Atieno Ouko. She emphasized her commitment in the development of the municipality objectives and the formation of a formidable working force with the local leadership. She further averred to champion for a reformed youthful municipality where talents are natured. She also underscored the need for youth empowerment and employment.

The vetting exercise continues tomorrow, Friday,18th August, 2023, with 4 nominees expected to appear before the Hon. James Otare led committee.
