HOUSE COMMITTEE VETS CECM NOMINEE FOR WATER, SANITATION, ENVIRONMENT, CLIMATE CHANGE AND NATURAL RESOURCES

SIAYA, Wednesday, 27th September, 2023

The County Assembly Committee on Appointments chaired by the Speaker of the County Assembly, Hon. George Okode, has this afternoon vetted Prof. Jaqueline Adhiambo Oduol, the CECM nominee for the Department of Water, Sanitation, Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources.

During the hearing, Prof. Oduol expressed her readiness to take up the position and asserted that in the performance of her duties, her vision for the attendant docket will be guided by the County’s CIDP and the Governor’s Nyalore manifesto.

The nominee articulated her drive to make a difference in the society by ensuring the provision of clean water to the residents of Siaya County.

If approved by the August House, she committed to mobilize resources for climate adaptation and mitigation to ease the burden occasioned by climate change with the Horn of Africa experiencing the worst drought in 40 years.

she avowed to advance a good working relationship with the County Assembly in a bid to ensure the full implementation of the Governor’s manifesto.

Prof. Oduol is a Post-Doctoral Fellow of the University of Illinois. She holds a Ph.D. and MA in Linguistics and a B.Ed. Arts from Kenyatta University.

She has previously served as a nominated Member of the National Assembly in the 12th Parliament (2017-2022). She has also been the Permanent Secretary and the Secretary for Children Affairs in the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Development (2008-2013).

The Committee will retreat to prepare a report on the suitability of the nominee and thereafter the report will be tabled in the House for consideration.
