THE SIAYA COUNTY REPRODUCTIVE, MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH BILL SET FOR RE-INTRODUCTION TO THE ASSEMBLY.

The County Assembly Committee of Health Services yesterday hosted a delegation from Access to Medicines Platform led by the CEO Mrs. Dorothy Okemo. Access to Medicine Platform is a not-for-profit organization working in partnership with County Governments to make meaningful contributions and advocate for robust health systems.

The County Assembly, during its second term, introduced The Siaya County Reproductive, Maternal and Child Health Bill that collapsed when the Assembly adjourned sine-die. The Bill sought to provide a legal framework to address maternal, reproductive and child health and enhance the provision of relevant health services for both women and new born children.

The committee of Health Services in partnership with Access to Medicines Platform is set to re-introduce the Bill sponsored by North Ugenya MCA, Hon. Bernard Adallah. The visit provided a forum for the Committee and the visiting delegation to develop a roadmap that shall guide the legislative proposal. The organization committed to provide the technical and financial support necessary to revamp the legislative proposal.

The delegation later paid a courtesy call to Speaker George Okode who lauded them for their overarching objective of enhancing healthcare systems and ensuring that women, children and vulnerable groups have access to safe, quality and effective health services and commodities.

The Speaker assured the delegation of the Assembly’s unfaltering commitment to the development of critical legislation on matters health. He challenged the Health Services Committee to work with speed to ensure the Bill is brought back to the House for consideration.
