In line with the provisions of Section 58A (7) and ( of the County Governments Act, 2012, read together with Section 7 of the Public Appointments (County Assemblies Approval) Act, 2017 and the County Assembly of Siaya Standing Orders, the House Committee on Appointments Chaired by Speaker George Okode has this morning conducted approval hearing for Eng. Collins Gordon Juma, the Governor’s nominee to the position of Chairperson of the Siaya County Public Service Board.

During the exercise, the nominee was put to task to explain how he would restore public confidence in the Board that has been constantly accused of corruption, nepotism and favoritism.

In a rejoinder, the nominee underscored his commitment to streamline the County Public Service Board by promoting integrity and transparency in all activities initiated by the entity.

Eng. Collins Gordon Juma holds a Bachelor of Engineering Degree (Mechanical) from Indian National Institute of Technology and a Master’s Degree in Operations Management from the University of Nairobi.

The nominee who hails from Gem sub-county is currently pursuing a PhD in Operations Management at the University of Nairobi.

Eng. Juma is a registered Consulting Engineer in Kenya and a Fellow at the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) and is currently the President of East Africa Engineering Organizations and immediate past President of IEK.

He has worked in the energy sector for more than 25 years, starting as a graduate engineer trainee at Kenya Power Company where he rose to the position of senior engineer before joining Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) as chief engineer.

Juma worked for the Kenya Nuclear Electricity Board since its inception in 2011, where was the Director of Technical and Head of Secretariat, before rising to Chief Executive Officer in 2016.

The position of the Chairperson of the Siaya County Public Service Board fell vacant following the demise of Mr. Elijah Achoch in 2023.

The Committee is expected to table its report on the suitability of the nominee in the House on Thursday, 2nd May, 2024.
