The County Assembly has approved the nomination of Mr. Richard Ayoo Ogeda for the position of Chief Officer for the Department of Tourism, Culture, Sports and Arts.
The House debated and adopted the Report by the Sectoral Committee on Tourism, Wildlife Conservation, Culture and Sports that carried out the vetting of the nominee and subsequently recommended for his appointment.
The House noted that Mr. Ogeda met the integrity threshold, demonstrated knowledge and good understanding of the workings of the County’s tourism sector and had the requisite abilities and academic qualifications to be approved for appointment as Chief Officer.
The 56-year-old Ogeda from North Sakwa Ward, Bondo Sub-County, holds a Masters Degree in Education, Guidance and Counselling, as well as a Bachelor of Education (Science) Degree, all from Egerton University. He also holds a Diploma in Education Science from Moi Teachers College.
During his vetting, the nominee expressed his commitment to use his networks to marshal development partners who can build modern hotels along the county’s beaches, promote water sports and improve the existing tourist sites in the county.
In his plan to improve sports and arts in the county, the nominee committed to carry out talent search and initiate mentorship programs, develop a Siaya county sports academy, improve playing facilities and deploy scouts to identify and build talents from the grass root level.
Consequently, the resolution of the House will be forwarded to H.E the Governor who will now formally appoint Mr. Ogeda as the Chief Officer for the Department of Tourism, Culture, Sports and Arts.
