MBEKA GIRLS’ SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS VISIT THE COUNTY ASSEMBLY ON AN EDUCATIONAL TOUR.

History and Government students from Mbeka Secondary School in Central Sakwa Ward accompanied by their teachers, today visited the Legislative arm of the County government of Siaya for an open and interactive learning experience to expose the students, enhance their understanding and improve their performance.

Siaya County Assembly of Siaya provides a platform for learners as part of its outreach program to enhance civic awareness and visibility. It also allows the students familiarize with its legislative, oversite and representation mandate, understand the composition of the Assembly, budget and law making processes.

During the Educational visit, the twenty-seven students were taken through the structure of the devolved system of governance, the relationship between the National Government and the County Governments, mandates of sectoral committees and other critical functions of the County Assembly.

The students also visited the County Assembly Chambers where they learnt how House Sessions are conducted, the set up and the sitting arrangement within the Chambers.

The County Assembly of Siaya is open to all. Schools that wish to visit the Assembly for learning purposes are welcome. The request may be placed through their respective Member of County Assembly, or by contacting the office of the County Assembly Clerk. The request should indicate the name of the institution, the preferred date of visit, as well as the number of students/pupils and the accompanying staff. Alternatively, walk-in visitors can approach security officers at the gates for guidance.
