In a unanimous decision, the House endorsed the Report of the Select Committee on Lands, Physical Planning, Surveying, Housing & Urban Development, confirming that the nominees met the necessary qualifications and complied with all the laid down requirements envisaged by the Urban Areas and Cities (Amendment) Act, 2019.

The approved nominees are;

1. Ms. Elizabeth Awino Akuka – Ukwala Town Committee

2. Mr. Joseph Onyango Ogola _ Sega Town Committee

3. Ms. Lucy Akinyi Odhiambo – Usenge Town Committee

According to the Urban Areas and Cities (Amendment) Act, 2019, the Town Committees are tasked with several responsibilities, including:

1. Overseeing the affairs of the town

2. Developing and adopting policies, plans, strategies, and programmes, and setting targets for delivery of services;

3. Formulating and implementing an integrated development plan;

4. Controlling land use, land sub-division, land development and zoning by public and private sectors for any purpose, including industry, commerce, markets, shopping and other employment centers, residential areas, recreational areas, parks, entertainment, passenger transport, agriculture, and freight and transit stations within the framework of the spatial and master plans for the town as may be delegated by the county government;

5. Promoting and undertaking infrastructural development and services within the town;

6. Maintaining a comprehensive database and information system of the administration;

7. Implementing applicable national and county legislation.
