Form Four History and Government students from Ngere High School today paid a courtesy visit to the County Assembly where they enjoyed a practical learning experience on the roles and operations of the County Assembly.
A team from the Assembly guided the 48 students in understanding the devolved system of government and the relationship between the national and county governments.
The students had the space and time to understand the composition and roles of the County Assembly, processes of budget and law making, and the county government sources of revenue.
The candidates were further granted a rare chance to tour sections of the Assembly where they learnt about the membership and roles of House Committees, the leadership structure of the Assembly and the challenges facing county governments.
The students also visited the Chambers where Members of the County Assembly conduct Plenary Sessions.
The County Assembly of Siaya is open to all. Schools that wish to visit the Assembly for learning purposes can place a formal request through the office of the County Assembly Clerk indicating their preferred date of visit.
