Form Four History and Government students from Uyawi Secondary School in Central Sakwa Ward today visited the County Assembly as part of the Assembly’s outreach program meant to enhance civic awareness and the visibility of the institution.
During the visit, the students who were accompanied by their teachers, gained valuable insights on the historical background, mandates, roles and structure of the devolved system of government. They were also taken through the law making procedure and other critical functions of the County Assembly.
The students tour of the County Assembly also provided them with the opportunity to attend today’s Plenary Session presided over by Speaker George Okode where they witnessed how debates in the House are conducted.
Welcoming the students, Central Sakwa Ward MCA, Hon. Bismarck Olang’o, expressed his delight at their enthusiasm and thirst for knowledge and challenged them to continue working hard in the pursuit of their dreams and goals no matter their backgrounds and circumstances in life.
He further extended his admiration to the teachers for their resolute commitment and steadfast support to the students as they prepare for their final examinations.
As an open public institution, the County Assembly of Siaya has identified school visits as a vital outreach program aimed at expanding students’ perspectives and furnishing them with a broad understanding of the workings and dynamics of the legislative arm of the county government.
In this regard, schools that wish to visit the Assembly for learning purposes are welcome. The request may be placed through their respective Member of County Assembly, or by contacting the office of the County Assembly Clerk. The request should indicate the name of the institution, the preferred date of visit, as well as the number of students/pupils and the accompanying staff. Alternatively, walk-in visitors can approach security officers at the gates for guidance.
