MARIWA MIXED SECONDARY SCHOOL VISIT THE COUNTY ASSEMBLY

Form Three History and Government Student from Mariwa Mixed Secondary School in Kisumu County today visited the County Assembly to practically expose the learners on the County System of Government, Roles and Mandate of the County Assembly and other relevant content areas.
The 57 Form Three Students accompanied by their teachers attended the academic visit to help link the theoretical lessons at school with the practical sessions at the County Assembly and to boost their knowledge and understanding of the oversight, legislative and the representation role of the Assembly and the relationship between the County and National Governments.
The 23 boys and 34 girls were also taken through the composition of the County Assembly, Law Making process, Sources of Revenue, challenges facing the County Assembly and the Executive, process of impeaching a Governor and the Budget Making Process.
Other than visiting the boardrooms where the Assembly’s Sectoral Committee Sessions are held, The students tour of the County Assembly also provided them with the opportunity to attend today’s Plenary Session presided over by Speaker George Okode where they witnessed how plenary session are conducted.
The County Assembly of Siaya has identified school visits as a vital outreach program aimed at expanding students’ perspectives and furnishing them with a broad understanding of the workings and dynamics of the legislative arm of the County Government.
In this regard, Schools that wish to visit the Assembly for learning purposes are welcome. The request may be placed through their respective Member of County Assembly, or by contacting the office of the County Assembly Clerk. The request should indicate the name of the institution, the preferred date of visit, as well as the number of students/pupils and the accompanying staff. Alternatively, walk-in visitors can approach security officers at the gates for guidance.
